Where to wear your Tweed? 7 Tweed Occasions You Need on Your Radar

Where to wear your Tweed? 7 Tweed Occasions You Need on Your Radar

The tweed suit often holds pride of place in a gentleman’s wardrobe.

It can often be tempting to “save” one's tweed suit for special occasions, but where’s the fun in that? When you’ve got such a sophisticated three-piece tweed suit in your collection, there’s no use in keeping it stored away.

Indeed, your tweed suit deserves to be shown off to the world.

So, if you’re all dressed (or suited) up with nowhere to go, worry not, we’ve got just the events for you to attend in your tweed.

The best social occasions to wear your tweed suit

End up donning your tweed to any of these events? Don’t forget to snap a photo and tag us on Instagram or Facebook!

Tweed Run — UK

Looking to socialise with some like-minded folk who also adore tweed? Then this is the event for you.

The Tweed Run is a meet-up of ladies and gentlemen who embark on a metropolitan bicycle ride together. They cycle through the streets of London, taking in the stunning sights of the big city and making stops along the way for some refreshments — including tea and a picnic, of course.

The sartorial occasion finishes with an awards ceremony where attendees are invited to stay for a drink and a knees up!

They did have to put the brakes on this wonderful event due to the pandemic, but we encourage tweed lovers to keep an eye out on their socials for any new events — you wouldn’t want to miss out!

Philly Tweed Ride — US

If you’re not based in the UK, worry not, tweed rides and runs occur all over the world. Philly Tweed Ride is a group based in — you guessed it — Philadelphia!

Although the official rides haven’t gone ahead for a couple of years — again due to the pandemic — some members of the group have been so keen to meet up that they’ve organized their own smaller groups.

As they put it themselves — get ready your woolens, knickers, brooks, and baskets! The Tweed Ride is a wonderful excuse to ride around town in your best tweed.

The races

Get your finest tweed on, you’re heading to the races!

Frequently attended by the Royals, horse racing events have long been an excuse to put on your most sophisticated garb.

We’d recommend wearing your full three-piece tweed suit to the races. During the day when it may be warmer, you can remove your jacket and keep on your waistcoat, maintaining the charm of your look. As it cools off in the evening, you can just pop your jacket back on to stay warm.

The Randox Grand National — Aintree (UK)

Cheltenham Festival — Cheltenham (UK)

The July Festival — Newmarket (UK)

The Derby — Epsom Downs (UK)

Kentucky Derby — Churchill Downs (US)

Preakness Stakes — Pimlico (US)

Belmont Stakes — Belmont Park (US)
